M-tone Guitars
Cool guitars hand made by Matt Proctor in Portland, Oregon. M-tone guitars have sweet shapes and finishes, and use steel, brass, aluminum and bone instead of plastic because real materials make real tone. info@m-tone.com

Metal in the Midst
I put a few of my sculptures up in the shop to keep me company when I make guitars. Inspiration comes in many forms.

Guitar Race Heats Up
One of my summer projects is to build some cool guitars around these 1957 Soviet Sputnik pins I acquired. Watch the night skies for a new body shape with a boldly optimistic, period correct attitude.

Coming soon: new “palomino” finish Stackpole. Honduran mahogany, new pickguard shape, same awesome kicking sound.
Video – Dimensioning a Neck
This jig straightens the edges and gives the final width to an M-tone guitar neck blank. I use a bearing bit on my pin router because adjusting the bit to the pin is a pain in the ass on this … Continue reading

Steel: because it’s not easy
Hand cut and finished steel parts are just one of the features that make M-tone guitars so cool. This pickguard, back plate and string bar are destined for a nice red Dynamo model, coming right up.
Upgrade to the M-tone workshop
Finally, a padded bench with all my final assembly tools close at hand. The skipping jambox is gone. With solid tunes and bright lighting, life is good. Now I just have to find a coin-operated “Magic Fingers” stool.

New Pickup Configuration
M-tone is now offering the awe-inspiring combination of a Lollar Special T in the bridge and a TV Jones SuperTron in the neck position. Here’s a Dynamo in the works with that spanky new pickup configuration. Tele meets Gretsch, all … Continue reading
Testarossa vs. Bug
Here are a couple of new guys hanging out in the spray booth: red on the left and a faithful recreation of a particular 1960 VW bug’s grimy cream interior on the right. This is what happens when they let … Continue reading
